Squads and Training 2024/2025
Competition Squad
The Competition squad is the more challenging of the two squads, aimed at swimmers looking to race and compete against other universities or who have a competitive swimming background. This however does not mean you must compete if you are a Competition squad member nor are there qualification times or minimum training requirements. The only requirement is that you are able to do the sets in training. Our mindset is that if you want to improve your swimming and get pb's, you know you need to train and the only person who can do that is you. Each session is taken by either our Head Coach Matt or Deputy Head Coach Fil who are dedicated to helping you achieve whatever goal you have. We usually recommend anyone who has swam at a county level or above to join the Competition squad.
When selecting swimmers for our teams we consider both squads, but the Competition squad is where our top swimmers regularly selected for A and B teams reside. Training is designed around and follows cycles that coincide with competitions to ensure peak performance for every event. A typical week for a Competition squad member consist of up to seven swimming sessions totalling nine hours of pool time along with two strength and conditioning gym sessions. If you're looking to get faster and train hard every session, then the Competition squad is where you should be.
Our membership gives you access to all competitions, weekly socials and special events. Details on how to join the Competition squad and purchase a membership can be found on our Membership page.

Recreational Squad
The Recreational squad is aimed at swimmers looking for a more casual swimming experience. Whether you're an ex club swimmer looking to get back into the water or just swim for fitness and fun, the Recreational squad is perfect for you. As a Recreational squad member you would have all of the same high level coaching from our Deputy Head Coach Fil and team Captains, along with the same racing opportunities as the Competitive squad just at an easier level. Sets are tailored to ensure we cater for a wide range of abilities and so you get the most out of every session.
Each week a Recreational squad member has access to up to six swimming sessions totalling seven hours of pool time along with a strength and conditioning gym session. Again, there are no qualification times to join this squad or minimum training requirements, you just have to be able to do the sets in training. As a guide, you would be expected to able to complete a few lengths in succession.
Our membership gives you access to all competitions, weekly socials and special events. Details on how to join the Recreational squad and purchase a membership can be found on our Membership page.
