Squads and Training 2025/2026

Competition Squad

The Competition Squad is aimed at swimmers looking to compete against other universities. Each session is taken by either our Head Coach, Matt, or Deputy Head Coach, Fil, who are dedicated to helping you achieve whatever goals you may have. Training is designed around and follows cycles that coincide with competitions to ensure peak performance for every event.

This is where our top swimmers who are regularly selected for our A and B teams reside, but when selecting teams for competitions, everyone is considered. If you’re looking to get faster and train hard every session then the Competition Squad is where you should be.

Aimed at - those with a competitive swimming background, ideally at County level or above.

Requirements - there are no minimum training requirements or qualification times. The only requirement is that you are able to do the sets in training.

Training - 8 pool sessions (at Jubilee Sports Centre) and 1 Strength & Conditioning gym session (at Wide Lane) each week.

Our membership gives you access to all competitions, weekly socials and special events. Details on how to join the Competition squad and purchase a membership can be found on our Membership page.

If you fancy any extra training at City of Southampton Swimming Club, then please talk to either our Head coach or our Assistant head coach or check out their website.

Recreational Squad

The Recreational Squad is aimed at those looking to get back into the water as an ex-swimmer or swim for fitness and fun. It is a much more casual experience, but still with access to high-level coaching from our Deputy Head Coach, Fil, and Team Captains, and the same racing opportunities as the Competition Squad - just at an easier level.

Sets are tailored to ensure we cater for a wide range of abilities, so everyone gets the most out of every session.

Aimed at - anyone looking to train casually and improve their fitness.

Requirements - no minimum training requirements or qualification times. All we ask is that you’re able to do the sets in training. As a guide, you would be expected to complete a few lengths in succession.

Training - 6 pool sessions (at Jubilee Sports Centre) and 1 Strength & Conditioning gym session (at Wide Lane) per week.

Our membership gives you access to all competitions, weekly socials and special events. Details on how to join the Recreational squad and purchase a membership can be found on our Membership page.
